Fourth generation family-run working cattle station
Azure Nature Tours is a family-run, Savannah Guides accredited tour business based on Nyanda Station, a 38,500-acre working cattle station at the gateway to Carnarvon National Park in Central Queensland. We run guided walks in Carnarvon Gorge and 4WD tag-along tours across Nyanda’s private sandstone country, where access is by guided tour only. We’re also working toward hands-on fossil experiences for the 2027 season.

Follow us over the sandstone ranges of Nyanda to lookouts within Reid’s Dome, one of the most striking geological structures in Queensland. We finish at our spring-fed creek with homemade morning tea.

A full day to the Moss Garden, Amphitheatre, Ward’s Canyon and Art Gallery. Along the way we talk geology, plants, bush tucker and the long human story of the Gorge.

Uncovering the land before dinosaurs
Long before the dinosaurs, Nyanda was a frozen coast, then a cold sea, then a vast swamp forest. Then came the Great Dying, the worst extinction in Earth’s history. On Nyanda you can stand with one foot in the Permian and one in the Triassic, right across that line.
We’re building a hands-on fossil experience around it, developed with palaeontologists. Here’s what we’re planning for next season.
NYANDA STATION
A working cattle station, open by guided tour only
Nyanda has been in our family for over sixty years. It’s 38,500 acres of sandstone ranges, spring-fed creeks and hidden gorges, still worked on horseback with Droughtmaster cattle. The property sits on Reid’s Dome, where the oldest rocks are in the centre, and younger layers ring around them, so as you move across Nyanda you’re moving through time.
Where to find us
Heading north from Roma or south from Emerald, the country lifts from rolling flats into sandstone escarpments and the highest tablelands in Queensland: the Roof of Queensland.
Carnarvon Gorge is 155km north of Injune and 105km south of Rolleston. Its white cliffs are Precipice Sandstone from the Jurassic, while the older Triassic Clematis Sandstone forms the Carnarvon Range and Mount Carnarvon. Nyanda Station is about 30km from the Gorge accommodation, roughly a 25 minute drive.

We’re Caity and Christian, owner-operators of Azure Nature Tours and an accredited Savannah Guides enterprise. We live and work on Nyanda at the gateway to Carnarvon National Park, and our tours are built around what we know best: the rocks, water, plants, and wildlife of this country, and the stories of the people who call it home.
We keep groups small, go places most visitors never see, and look after the country as we go.
