Nyanda Station, at the gateway to Carnarvon Gorge in Central Queensland, holds one of the most remarkable geological stories in Australia: over 290 million years of Earth history written into its rocks. Here you can walk from a frozen Permian sea, through vast Gondwanan coal forests, across the boundary of the Great Dying, the greatest mass extinction life has ever endured, and into the strange survivors' world that followed.

This deep-time story, compiled with palaeontologist Peter Bishop, includes the official type sections of several rock formations found on Nyanda, fossil evidence that once helped prove the continents move, and the chance to stand at the exact line where the Permian world ended and the Triassic world began.
